There is a persistent misunderstanding of the accessibility of the Air National Guard. Consider what the Air National Guard provides the nation on a daily basis:27% of the United States Air Force fighter fleet30% of overall United States Air Force combat power38% of the United States Air Force mobility fleet44% of 2022 United States Air Force taskings 47% of 2023 United States Air Force taskings62% of all United States Air Force cyber missions94% of aerospace control alert and battle management in support of That's a whole lot of accessibility! All this and more is discussed in The Mitchell Institute for Aerospace Studies's podcast with Lt Gen Mike Loh, Joseph "Gus" Guastella (Lt Gen USAF Ret), and Heather Penney. They discuss the need to invest in the Total Force and further leverage the Air National Guard and U.S. Air Force Reserve to ensure we have the Air Force that the Joint Force needs.Check it out!#nationalguard #totalforce #strategy #nationalsecurity #natsechttps://lnkd.in/eNYEHSEn

Not to mention the cost savings we bring across the board. I’ve been on both sides of the coin (AD and ANG) and ACC spends far less on equipment on our deployers versus an AD airman. It’s infurating as a Budget Officer.

The BIG question is. What is congress going to do about this ?Where is additional funding going to come from? This is actually a common issue across all the branches. Relying heavily on Guard and Reserves.

Q&A with Lt. Gen. David A. Deptula, USAF (Ret.), dean of the Mitchell Institute for Aerospace Studies, and former deputy chief of staff for Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance for the US Air Force""It’s one thing when you put together PowerPoint presentations and [say] we’re going to connect every sensor with every shooter all the time. First, you don’t need to do that. You need to connect the right sensor to the right weapon at the right time in the right place. That’s what’s going to be tough about actualizing this whole notion of Joint All Domain Command and Control. How do you do that? We’ve got sensor suites that can deliver information globally. But if I am in Theater A, I don’t care about what’s being collected on the other side of the world. Now let’s neck down Theater A. I’m in a sub-segment and got to neck that down to a 10 by 10 nautical square mile container that I’m interested in. The point is, how do you get the people who are responsible on the leading edge of the fight the information that’s necessary for them to optimally employ their weapons with information advantage? "

I have had concerns since late last decade that the Australian Defence Force has been ill-prepared at point of injury care and best practices post our most recent COIN conflict with #AUKUS allies. Regardless of the fact the ADF adopt small parts of TCCC and then choose to ignore or dismiss entire parts of the continuum delivery/capability ( e.g TC3-CLS within Arms Corps personnel ) The ‘AS-TCCC’ fails to follow best global practices and developed guidelines from our greatest ally, which make me concerned for our current service personnel and their battlefield survivability. Hence SOTER International was conceived to accelerate this. Now to hear this ….…makes me concerned 10 fold. When is the ADF going to realise it’s too late….our (Australian) soldiers, sailors and airmen need to be trained NOW prior to a possible ‘neer-peer’ conflict, without potentially, air dominance or at least freedom of manoeuvre. There will be no time for ‘just in time training’ next time and we are failing to embrace the learnings of the #42 and integrating medical training/scenarios into every exercise and rehearsal. #tccc #concerns #adf #defenceindustry #soterinternational

The USAF isn’t the only American armed service that’s shrinking while its Chinese adversary is growing. After wasting billions of dollars on ships that don’t work, the US Navy is contracting even as Xi Jinping’s fleet is expanding. The Air Force’s problem is similar. A quarter-century ago, the USAF committed to spending much of its $250 billion annual budget on the Lockheed Martin-made F-35 Lightning II stealth fighter – a plane which has been beset by cost overruns and reliability problems. The $400-billion project has eaten the Air Force. The idea, when the F-35 was new, was for the USAF to have nearly 1,800 of the stealthy fighters by this point. Instead, it has fewer than 500.Read on 👉 https://bit.ly/3ONuLZ3

Maj Gen Jeffrey King, Director of Logistics, Deputy Chief of Staff, Logistics, Engineering, and Force Protection, USAF, presented at #LOA2024. He discussed the implications of strategic competition, specifically challenges by pacing competitors to modern battlefield logistics. In an era of Great Power Competition, we must assume that we will be forced to sustain operations in increasingly contested conditions where we will not enjoy permissive environments or the freedom to maneuver with impunity. “We don’t have logistics problems, instead we have operational problems with logistical implications.”The Air Force logistics enterprise is taking action to overcome the challenge of contested logistics, because logistics resilience enables operational resilience. One way the AF/A4 intends to markedly improve resilience, is to deepen logistics interoperability with our Allies and Partners because we are #strongertogether.

Check out this article to learn a little more about the U.S. military’s special operations forces (SOF): Their elite status is due in part to the following: "Special operations units are masters of the fundamentals of warfare, and they generally have better funding, better training, fewer restrictions, and a near carte blanche to select the very best while getting rid of anyone who no longer maintains the standard."https://lnkd.in/eXpBCdWq

Learn how the Space and Missile Defense Center of Excellence’s SMD School is using the US Army’s space vision to train expert space Soldiers to combat evolving threats.“In recognizing what our adversaries are doing, it was important for the Army to recognize space as a warfighting domain so we can properly prepare ourselves to deter and compel our adversaries to stop doing things that are counter to the global common,” said Col. Donald Brooks, SMDCoE commandant. “Because of the vision, we know exactly where the Army wants us to go, and that helps us now instruct those students in a much more focused manner.”Read more: https://lnkd.in/ghHWXXvYU.S. Army Space and Missile Defense Command

Retired Maj. Gen. Francis M. McGinn, the NGAUS president, issued the following statement on the Air Force decision to remove the flying unit from the Maryland Air National Guard’s 175th Wing:“The Air Force decision announced yesterday to convert the Maryland Air National Guard’s 175th Wing from a flying unit to a cyber-only mission squanders some of the U.S. military’s most experienced pilots and maintainers at a time when such talent is in short supply.“The announcement came as airmen and A-10 Thunderbolt II aircraft of the wing’s 104th Fighter Squadron are preparing to deploy to the Middle East in support of U.S. Central Command later this month. This is testament to their critical importance to the nation’s defense today.“But unlike their active-component counterparts who move every few years, Air National Guardsmen have deep ties to their communities. Most have civilian jobs. They cannot pick up and go to a new base easily. The Air Force must bring planes to them.“This has been the case for the 175th Wing for generations, and the arrangement has served the nation well. The wing has flown multiple aircraft since its establishment as the 104th Observation Squadron in 1921, often in combat or in the defense of U.S. air sovereignty.“This decision makes no sense in this era of Great Power Competition. Air Force officials are actually pushing the 175th Wing’s flying personnel out of the service when the U.S. military is critically short of skilled pilots and maintainers.”https://lnkd.in/eayiTt25
