Free Waffle Crochet Hook Holder Booklet Pattern with Butter and Syrup (2024)

This handy, yet cute waffle crochet hook holder with butter and syrup features a section to store your hooks and 2 extra pockets for your notions. This free crochet pattern is made with acrylic worsted-weight yarn.

Crochet Hooks need to be stored nicely to be able to find them and use them when crocheters need them. But the storage solution doesn’t have to be plain or in a simple box or drawer, especially if you want to take your hooks on the go. This adorable waffle booklet with butter and syrup is your ideal hook holder and notion storage solution.

And since my first crochet hook holder went viral and is still very popular, I thought it would be perfect to create one using the waffle stitch.

And if you are a visual learner, I also added a few video tutorials to learn the stitches needed to help you along with the written free pattern as well. This pattern used to be a mystery crochet along and is broken up like that accordingly.

How to Crochet a Waffle Crochet Hook Holder – Free Pattern

Materials you will need

• Premier Yarns Anti-Pilling Yarn (100% Acrylic, Worsted, 180 yds/100g):
  • Mustard (2/3 skein)
  • Lemon (1/3 skein)
  • a little bit of brown
• 4.0mm hook size
• scissors
• tapestry needle

Gauge

4 sts x 2 rows = 1 square inch

Size

8 x 6.5 inches

Written Pattern – Large Waffle Stitch Rectangle

Using Mustard

Note: If you are using a VERY DARK color, save it for part 2. If you have 2 light or medium colors, the pick is yours.

ATC = Alternative Turning Chain, aka Stacked Single Crochet (please watch the video above as I show you how to crochet it)

Ch 36

R1: starting from the 2^nd ch from the hook, 1 ATC, 1 dc in every st until the end, turn

R2: 1 ATC, 1 dc, *1 FPDC, 1 dc in the next 2 sts, repeat from * until the end, turn

R3: ch 1, *1 FPDC in the next 2 sts, 1 dc, repeat from * until the end, turn

R4-32: repeat R2 and R3

Fasten off, weave in ends

This rectangle is approximately 8 x 13 inches. It’s ok if it’s a bit small or larger.

2 Smaller Waffle Stitch Rectangles Written Pattern

With Lemon

Ch 18

R1: starting from the 2^nd ch from the hook, 1 ATC, 1 dc in every st until the end, turn

R2: 1 ATC, 1 dc, *1 FPDC, 1 dc in the next 2 sts, repeat from * until the end, turn

R3: ch 1, *1 FPDC in the next 2 sts, 1 dc, repeat from * until the end, turn

R4-6: repeat R2 and R3

Fasten off, leave about 1 foot of yarn end

The 2 small rectangles are about 4 x 2.5 inches.

Linked Treble Crochet Stitch Rectangle Written Pattern

With Lemon

Ch 33

R1: start from the 2^nd ch from the hook, pull up loops from the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th ch from the hook (4 loops on hook), finish it like a tr st, now use the horizontal bars (see video for more info) to pull up 2 loops in total (those are your yarn overs), then pull up a loop from the next st, finish it like a tr st, now continue making linked tr sts until the end, turn

R2-7: ch 3, now repeat R1

Fasten off and leave about 2 feet of yarn end

The rectangle is about 7 x 4.5 inches.

With Mustard

Ch 9

R1: starting from the 2^nd ch from the hook, 1 ATC, 1 dc in every st until the end, turn

R2: 1 ATC, 1 dc, *1 FPDC, 1 dc in the next 2 sts, repeat from * until the end, turn

R3: ch 1, *1 FPDC in the next 2 sts, 1 dc, repeat from * until the end, turn

R4-14: repeat R2 and R3

Fasten off, leave about 1 foot of yarn end

Small Latch Closure Written Pattern

With Mustard

Ch 11

R1: starting from the 2^nd ch from the hook, 1 sc per ch, fasten off, leave 1 foot yarn end

Butter Written Pattern

With Lemon

Ch 7

R1: starting from the 2^nd ch from the hook, 1 sc per ch, now turn project upside down so you’re working on the other side of the chain, 1 sc per ch (you’re now going in continuous rounds)

R2-6: 1 sc per st

Seam the last round closed, leave 1 foot of yarn end

Syrup Written Pattern

With Brown

R1: make a magic ring, ch 1 (not a st), add 6 sc, close the ring, you’re now working in continuous rounds so use a stitch marker

R2: 2 sc per st

R3: *1 sc, 2 sc, repeat from * until the end of the round

R4: *1 sc in 2 sts, 2 sc, repeat from * until the end of the round

R5: *1 sc in 3 sts, 2 sc, repeat from * until the end of the round

You can now freestyle crochet or follow my pattern to make the “running” syrup

R6: 1 sc, ch 8, starting from the 2^nd ch from the hook, 1 sc in 2 sts, 1 hdc in 2 sts, 1 dc in 2 sts, 1 tr, sk 2 sts, 1 sc, [1 dc, 1 tr] in the same st, [1 tr, 1 dc] in the same st, 1 hdc, 1 sc, ch 4, starting from the 2^nd ch from the hook, 1 sc per ch, 1 sc, ch 6, starting from the 2^nd ch from the hook, 1 sc in 2 sts, 1 hdc in 2 sts, 1 dc, sk 1 st, 1 sc 1 sc, 1 hdc, [1 dc, 1 tr] in the same st, [1 tr, 1 dc] in the same st, 1 hdc, 1 sc, ch 3, starting from the 2^nd ch from the hook, 1 sc per ch, 1 sc in 3 sts, 1 hdc, , [1 dc, 1 tr] in the same st, [1 tr, 1 dc] in the same st, 1 hdc, 1 sc, ch 9, starting from the 2^nd ch from the hook, 1 sc in 2 sts, 1 hdc in 2 sts, 1 dc in 2 sts, 1 tr in 2 sts, sk 2 sts, 1 sc per st until the end, sl st

Assembly

Put the large waffle stitch rectangle upside down, then sew the yellow waffle stitch rectangles on the right side (U-shaped sewing line) to make a pocket for each.

Next, sew the linked treble crochet stitch rectangle on the left side such that you’re making pockets for your hooks (see video for more details).

Then, sew the waffle stitch flap to the back of the hook holder booklet and latch closure to the front.

Finally, sew the syrup and butter to the front top right corner of the waffle crochet hook holder booklet.

You’re now finished and can use your cool unique waffle crochet hook holder booklet.
