I have an unopened jar of mincemeat with expiry date of July 2023. Should I chuck it or would you use it?

Obviously check the smell and that there is no mould etc when you open it, but I would absolutely use it.

I'd definitely use it. Is it best before? All that means is it might be slightly past its best by now, but I find it keeps really well for ages. I might add a slug of brandy to perk it up a bit, but I'd probably do that anyway, tbh.

If it's been sealed properly then absolutely I'd use it. Mincemeat exists because it keeps brilliantly for very long periods.

Yes. I'd use that. Mincemeat has a very long shelf life, far longer than that printed on the container, (which is only a short while ago).
I'd add a slug of brandy or whiskey to perk it up a bit!

Assuming it smells OK stick a tablespoon of your favourite spirit in it (we use brandy for mincemeat) and use it. Will spruce it up and it will taste lovely - well matured and often 3 times the price in the shops!

Definitely use it. I always add alcohol, extra nuts, glacé cherries, grated apple, orange juice and zest and whatever looks interesting when I look around the kitchen. It's always been very popular. This year I will be using the fruit from the Christmas gin I've been making.

Thank you everyone. Yes it is best before and I absolutely will be adding brandy 😆

I posted this either under this user name or another one this or last year, consensus was use it and add alcohol. I made some nice mince pies plus a nice mince slice tray bake.
