20 Mouth-Watering Pumpkin Recipes That Will Get You Excited (2024)

Fall has begun.

As if the sound of the school bus picking up children, and the smell of popcorn and corn dogs from the football game concession stand was not enough.

With fall, all cooking and baking include pumpkin. There’s pumpkin in everything, and I do mean everything! Our list of recipes will include the sweet, the savory, and everything (pumpkin) in between. So if you love fall and pumpkin as much as I do, then this list is for you!

Great Pumpkin Recipes

1. Chicken with Pumpkin and Mushrooms

20 Mouth-Watering Pumpkin Recipes That Will Get You Excited (2)

Sadly, nobody in my household is a big fan of mushrooms except for me; however, my mother is moving down here in the next six weeks and I do have my fellow teachers I eat lunch with. Needless to say, this recipe is going to be one of the first on my “try it” list. Mmmmm, over mashed potatoes. I’m already in love!

2. Pumpkin Cookies

I’m putting these babies on the list because… they really should be. I make these cookies year in and year out and they never get old. I guess that’s what is great about being a truly seasonal person – I long for pumpkin by the time summer is ending and by mid-February, my craving for strawberries come back.

Anyways, you must make one batch of these pumpkin cookies at least. You won’t go wrong, I promise!

3. Pumpkin Waffles

Nothing is more satisfying to me than waking up, brewing a pot of coffee and making a big breakfast for my family. Especially when the weather is getting colder and everyone wants to sleep in just a little bit longer. Waking up to the smell of a freshly made breakfast makes it almost too hard to resist that extra few minutes in bed.

Instead, the family sits by the table and rubs their eyes in the beginning but is happily awake and ready for the day by the time they finish their delicious breakfast of pumpkin waffles and fresh-off-the-farm bacon.

4. Pumpkin Spice Creamer

20 Mouth-Watering Pumpkin Recipes That Will Get You Excited (5)

The recipe says it is a pumpkin spiced latte but lattes are made with an espresso machine and this recipe calls for dark coffee. That being said, it is a great replacement for those who do not live near a Starbucks or wishes not to shop there.

It is also good for those of us who have read the back of the creamer label and cringe of the thought that we are drinking vegetable oil. Um.. no, I’ll pass on the vegetable oil and stick with a homemade version of any creamer available.

I will say as well, that if you get overly ambitious, before you add the pumpkin spice creamer to the coffee, stir in a handful of white chocolate chips. It is decadent!

5. Pumpkin Soup

20 Mouth-Watering Pumpkin Recipes That Will Get You Excited (6)

This soup is delicious and is not sweet as when you think of pumpkin. Instead, it has the consistency of a thick tomato soup but it’s pumpkin. I recommend it as a starter for a nice meal you have planned. Or lunch the next day!

You can find the recipe here.

6. Pumpkin Crumb Cake Muffins

So, this one is a winner for sure. I say this because one: it’s pumpkin, two: it’s crumb cake, three: it’s made by Sally’s from Sally’s Baking Addiction. Her food is phenomenal. I make her chocolate chip cake batter sprinkles for school every week and it sells out very quickly.

Even better, the author is as amazing as her sweets are. I met her at a book signing in New York City a few years back and felt like I was meeting a celebrity.

I know I’ll be having thesepumpkin crumb cake muffinsfor breakfast next Tuesday!

7. Healthy Pumpkin Pie Smoothie

20 Mouth-Watering Pumpkin Recipes That Will Get You Excited (8)

One of the crummiest things about living in Texas is that our fall starts typically around the first day of November. So, hot chocolate and fall tasting foods are perfect in theory but not in practicality. When it’s eighty-five degrees outside, it is hard to justify drinking a hot chocolate. Therefore, this pumpkin smoothie is a perfect exchange for the season. Find the recipe here.

7. Baked Pumpkin Donuts

20 Mouth-Watering Pumpkin Recipes That Will Get You Excited (9)

I’m not genuinely a fan of donuts. I attribute this to getting older. Plus we used to eat donuts quite a bit so that played into it I am sure. Either way, a baked variety might not be bad every now and then. Add to the fact that it is pumpkin spiced and I think this is one even I will eat. Delicious Baked Pumkin Donuts!

8. Pumpkin Chili

20 Mouth-Watering Pumpkin Recipes That Will Get You Excited (10)

Okay. I won’t lie. Yes, it’s still hot during the day but the nights are colder… at least colder than what it was in July and August. So when the temperature drops below seventy-five degrees, we eat like it’s Thanksgiving. Which includes chili.

This recipe is different, calling for V8 juice and Rotel but they talk about the earthy, sweet undertones of the pumpkin which makes me want to give it a whirl.

9. Pumpkin Spice Latte Biscotti

20 Mouth-Watering Pumpkin Recipes That Will Get You Excited (11)

Guess what? This blogger loves pumpkin… everything. Yeah!

And who doesn’t love a biscotti with their coffee? We used to get them at the coffee shop until one day I told my daughter that we could make them at home and she was shocked! So we did it and now it is not uncommon to find a batch of biscottis in the oven.

Find this delicious recipe here.

10. Pumpkin Cream Cheese Muffins

20 Mouth-Watering Pumpkin Recipes That Will Get You Excited (12)

This is the perfect number ten recipe because there is something so delicate and delicious about cream cheese and pumpkin merging together. The originator of pumpkin spice everything, Starbucks, normally has a cream cheese muffin on their menu during this time of year. Likewise, we should put this on our home menu too! Try this recipe here.

11. Dairy Free Pumpkin Spice Creamer

20 Mouth-Watering Pumpkin Recipes That Will Get You Excited (13)

I recognize that not everyone can drink milk, so if you are one of those people this recipe is for you. She does a good job of giving you options of which non-dairy milk to use and the picture looks delicious, doesn’t it? So, if you need a non-dairy pumpkin spice creamer option, you’re welcome.

12. Pumpkin Risotto

20 Mouth-Watering Pumpkin Recipes That Will Get You Excited (14)

The first time I ever had risotto was a restaurant where I had to look up the names of many of the recipes they served. It was an amazing experience that made me want to… go home and make risotto balls. This recipe is equally as delicious sounding with white wine, cranberries, and goat cheese. I do believe this is another “I have got to try this!” recipe.

13. Pumpkin Creme Brulee

My high school culinary students love it when we get to make creme brulee although we have never made it with pumpkin. I could only imagine that this added flavor would put the recipe over the top. Although I also thought that playing with a torch did the same thing. Either way, this recipe is sure to win people over!

14. Pumpkin Pudding

20 Mouth-Watering Pumpkin Recipes That Will Get You Excited (16)

This is a great recipe to send in the kids’ lunch. It is not uncommon for me to send applesauce or yogurt in the reusable push pop containers but I hadn’t thought much about putting pudding in there. What a sweet treat to get pudding and then pumpkin pudding to boot!

I will say though, I would be lazy about this one. She recommends hand whipping it BUT I am going to use my kitchen aid mixer every chance I get. Either way what a fun recipe that is. Sure to please both child and adult alike! Find the recipe here.

15. Chicken Pumpkin Quinoa Chowder

20 Mouth-Watering Pumpkin Recipes That Will Get You Excited (17)

Oh chowder! It gets me every time. The little town in Southern Illinois where I grew up would have a bluegrass and chowder festival every year. When I was fourteen or fifteen, I rode my bike and bought my first chowder- corn chowder. It was amazing and I was hooked on the delicious soup.

For this recipe, I love that she recommends you use a pie pumpkin (which I call a sugar pumpkin) instead of canned pumpkin. She does call for pumpkin puree later down and, again, I am okay with it more because she uses a real pumpkin. She also uses a whole chicken which is just great in my opinion. It’s the little things that make me happy.

The author recommends making this recipe in your yoga pants on a cold, rainy day when the leaves are falling. I think I am going to trust her on this one and will be reporting back when I do! Try the recipe for yourself here.

16. Spicy Roasted Pumpkin Wedges

20 Mouth-Watering Pumpkin Recipes That Will Get You Excited (18)

This one is for my spicy fans out there. This would make an interesting side with burgers instead of fries. In addition, you could use this one as a savory snack if that is what you are wanting. Not to mention it is much healthier than eating fried potato chips or French fries. So skip on the grease and go for the vitamin C that the pumpkin packs! To find your savory recipe, go here.

17. Slow Cooker Pumpkin Steel Cut Oats

20 Mouth-Watering Pumpkin Recipes That Will Get You Excited (19)

Having grown up in the north, oatmeal was a regular thing in my household during the winter months. I’ve already declared my love for pecan and pumpkin together so this comes as no surprise that I would really crave this as a great choice for breakfast on a chilly morning in the fall or winter months.

Add to the fact that this recipe is one that I can throw together the night before and let sit on low while I sleep, meaning the chef gets to wake up to breakfast made for her is super awesome. Consider me sold. If this appeals to you, the recipe can be found here.

18. Pumpkin Sheet Cake

20 Mouth-Watering Pumpkin Recipes That Will Get You Excited (20)

I didn’t know much about sheet cakes until September four years ago. As my husband packed up and moved to Dallas, Texas without me and our girls for the first six months, I threw myself into the kitchen. The Texas sheet cake was one of the first things on my list. Since then I love the tenderness of the sheet cake along with the amount of icing that is added to the thinner amount of cake.

I do love both sections of a cake; however, the icing can sometimes be over powered by the cake. So, pumpkin, moistness, and icing all wrapped into one. Where can I sign up? Here, of course!

19. Pumpkin Beef Stew

20 Mouth-Watering Pumpkin Recipes That Will Get You Excited (21)

This is a recipe that I would make for my husband. He loves the tenderness of the meat combined with the taste of carrots, potatoes, and celery. Adding a hint of earthy pumpkin might just be what the stew needs to take it from yum to oh my goodness yum.

To some extent, pumpkin has this wrap for being super sweet and that’s not always the case. As with many other things, it is what you make of it. If you want to see what kind of creativity you can get your pumpkin passion into, try this recipe here.

20. Copy Cat Starbucks Pumpkin Pound Cake

20 Mouth-Watering Pumpkin Recipes That Will Get You Excited (22)

Yes, I did just tell you that pumpkin gets a bad rap for always being used as a sweet treat and there is a valid reason for a sweet pumpkin treat. It blends so well. At the same time, I am giving homage to the originator of pumpkin-spiced everything by adding in one of their fall classics.

I was telling a coworker today that my favorite thing about food is taking something that is made somewhere else and making it mine. This would be one way to do it.

Also, if you want a greatfall breakfast, turn this recipe into French toast by dipping the pound cake into the milk and egg mixture and then pan frying it!

Concluding Great Pumpkin Recipes

If you live where the fall starts in September, be grateful. If you live where I do when the season waits another two months, be grateful too. Both of these areas bring beauty in different aspects. And the best thing is, no matter where you are you can enjoy pumpkin recipes- no matter if it is pumpkin pie or beyond!
