Marine Corps Birthday – November 7
The Gold Leaf Detachment will be hosting a birthday celebration instead of a ball this year. It will be a casual event (jeans and a shirt with the eagle globe and anchor on it). The location has changed from the Elks Lodge to the American Legion post 13. The address is 2035 US-301 Wilson, N.C. The date is Saturday November 7 at 1300. Tickets will be $15 per person.

Artist wins award for prints! Marine Corps League Member David Phillips received the prestigious PICA Award for his artwork. Morgan Printers in Greenville, NC presented the award on May 14th.
Motor Sports Annual Christmas Toy Run: About 75 riders led by Greenville Motorcycle Police Officer Aaron circled Greenville and delivered over 350 toys to Pitt County’s Toys for Tots Chair Lee Pascasio along with over $250 in donations. Pascasio addressed the group, “The economy is not getting better any time soon, so on behalf of the many underprivileged children in Pitt County we thank you. When children receive a new toy Christmas morning, they see that people really care about them. It gives them a new ray of hope. Christmas is very much about our little children and, of course, baby Jesus.”
Detachment 1186 will host a VA public forum on September 5th to discuss the opening of a new VA clinic in Greenville, NC. Representatives from the VA Medical Center in Durham NC will be present and answer questions. The event begins at 11am and will be held at the American Legion.
Congressman Walter B. Jones presented a flag flown over the United States Capitol in honor of GySgt Francis Eddings. Grace Eddings accepted the flag on behalf of her late husband and member of the Down East Detachment. Commandant Balow was in attendance.
